500HP+ Ariel Atom V8

I posted the video from the original Ariel Atom with 275 HP. Now check out this one with over 500 HP. Twice the power to weight rating of the Bugatti Veyron.

Jeep vs. Corvette

I have posted this in honor of our rightnowautoparts.com call center manager Robert Fox.

Ford F150 drives over a Ferrari 458 Italia

In an eerie de-ja-vue kind of thing I came across this video today, just after my last post about Ford F150 vs. Ferrari F150. Now this car is a 2011 Ferrari 458 Italia (not the F150), but I believe you can see the connection. The video is pretty boring once you get beyond the horror of the truck resting on the hood of a car costing more than the house most of us live in. Just in case you were considering lowering your car insurance deductables to save a little money... don't.

F150? I'm so confused...Is that four wheel drive?

Which F150 would you prefer... the old one from Ford or the new one from Ferarri? Thanks to Topspeed.com for the photos and article!

Bullitt Mustang Stuntman Article

If you like Mustangs, you love the movie Bullitt. If you love that movie you really need to read this great article from Jalopnik.com about the filming of the movie as told by the main Mustang stunt man, Loren Janes. The article is great, but the main reason you need to go there is the movie highlights. Jalopnik continues to be rightnowautoparts.com "go to" for great and relevant automotive information.

Eleanor Calling?

Once I hit the lottery and begin hoarding Mustangs, this model will be one of the first two or three that I purchase. Who doesn't love the 67 Shelby Mustang GT500 Fastback, and who wouldn't love the modifications that are done to this beautiful example. Thanks for autoambush.com for sharing !!

Projected Gasoline Prices

Gas Prices: Over the last year there has been very little volatility in the world oil market; the spot price of one barrel of crude oil has remained broadly stable around $70 to $80. Gas prices for the first half of 2010 averaged $2.75 per gallon (retail regular grade gas price) up from $2.34 for 2009 (annual average), though summer 2010 gasoline demand did not show any seasonal gains. In fact, prices declined by 10 cents per gallon between May and June. All the forecasting sources in ALG's consensus have lowered their outlook for oil prices since the last review in August. One notable change is to the Conning outlook which declined from $92 to $88 in 2011 and $112 to $104 in 2012 while the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) also lowered their gas price outlook by 2 cents/gallon in 2013.

ALG increased the number of forecasting sources considered for oil prices; the consensus continues to indicate less inflation in oil and gas prices. Based on this information, ALG lowered the annual outlook for average retail regular grade gasoline in 2013 from $3.95 to $3.78 (Jan/Feb 2014 value of $3.87 is shown in the RVW4.0 workbench). On average, this has a positive impact on residuals, although there will be marked variations by segment – vehicles with low MPG ratings will be most positively impacted, while vehicles with high MPG ratings will be negatively impacted.

Atlanta Doesn't Deal With Snow Very Well...

1 liter engine that makes 135 HP?

I have found another post on New engine design from wired.com and wanted to share it here on the blog. I have shared articles on this subject in many Previous posts from rightnowautoparts.com because I feel we are entering a new age in design that may even end the reign of our beloved internal combustion design. This new model does use the old design, but with some fresh and innovative changes. I will do what I can to stay on top of this trend as well as the updates to batteries. Some combination of the two will eventually be chosen as the successor and should usher in another wave of innovation towards the highest efficiency (and power) available. Here's looking forward to the 300 HP, 100 MPG hybrid of the near future.

Defining the Redneck...

I am from the state of Georgia and proudly wear the name of redneck. However, those of us that actually reside in the South understand that there are "shades" of redneck. Some of us are educated, dress well, relate to the less friendly natives of the Northern zones and generally get along in what would be considered a normal condition. There are others however who are "Eat up with redneck". Let me give you an example... I am currently the ECommerce Manager at an Auto Parts company with an online presence named rightnowautoparts.com. In one of the previous positions here my job entailed answering calls and filling orders for dealerships around the country. My favorites were the calls from Southern Alabama (or LA to the locals). One such call went like this.

me- Thanks for calling, May I help you?

parts guy- Yeah check a number for me...

me- Sir, it looks like that number has been changed by the GM engineers to a newer number. Let me research it for you. Can you hold a second please?

parts guy- Sure, go ahead.

parts guy somewhat muffled by his hand over the receiver- Nah, you guys go on down to Shorty's. I'm gonna jump in the truck and run by the trailer to check on something. If my wife left the TV on again for that #@$%n dog I'm gonna beat her @$$, I don't care what my probation officer says...

me stifling a laugh- Sir I have your part number do you need a PO on the invoice?

Like I said, "ate up"... There's got to be a country song in that sentence somewhere.

It's cold out there !!

I just got off the phone with a friend of mine in Wyoming. He said that
since early this morning the snow has been nearly waist high and is
still falling. The temperature is dropping below zero and the north wind
is increasing. His wife has done nothing but look through the kitchen
window all day. He says that if it gets much worse, he may have to let
her in.

The 2011 Ford Galaxie 500?

Cool story about what might have been without the cafe standards and emmision control nazis. Don't get me wrong, change makes people and companies better in most cases. It is just that what change, when and who decides how, have many other unforeseen effects. I believe the term "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." is one of the failures of our time. Change is good... consider this picture of the future at Thetruthaboutcars.com.com.

Original Batmobile

I mentioned yesterday that I liked the original Green Hornet Car better than the Original Batmobile. I found this article today with a cool comic strip style history of all of the Batmobiles through the years. How many versions would you guess? I would have thought somewhere around seven or eight... It looks like quite a bit more than that. It is worth your time to click through to the article posted on ltd-cars.com . There are actually quite a few versions that we could supply parts for at rightnowautoparts.com (the Corvette based models).

Have I mentioned that I like watches also?

The Original Green Hornet Car

I can remember as a kid wanting badly to love the Green Hornet TV show. The characters were cool, Bruce Lee was amazing and who can help but fall in love with this cool car. It was even more cool than the Lincoln on Hawaii Five-O and more believable than the Adam West Original Batman Batmobile. Unfortunately the writing for the show was extremely boring... I have heard mixed reviews on the new movie, but the new car is definately a great throwback tribute to the old. Thanks to Autoblog.com for the pictures and info in this article about the old show...

Who Makes ACDelco Fuel Sending Units?

I would love to give you a simple answer, but fuel pumps are not really that easy to deal with. First off, the ACDelco fuel pump you would buy from us would be the same unit that would be installed should you decide to take it to the dealership. The manufacturer of the pump in the ACDelco box could be a little more complicated. Delphi had been for years the actual OE manufacturer of fuel pumps for GM / ACDelco. Since their bankruptcy there could be others, depending on the vehicle. Supplying us with your VIN number will make sure we get you the correct part number.

Another thing that confuses the issue is that GM engineers are constantly updating issues with fuel pumps and have changed most part numbers several times, including the connectors (which will almost always need to be spliced). I can tell you that my parts experts can get you the correct unit (we suggest the complete fuel sending units) and that it will be guaranteed for 12 months and 12K miles.

Finally, I am not sure how the climate in your area plays into this scenario but it is a long held understanding among mechanics that waiting until the fuel tank is very low before refilling causes issues. It has something to due with temperature build up of the unit and then the cold fuel pumped from underground. The extreme difference eventually causes issues. It's just a suggestion going forward, but it's best to always refill before you go below 1/4 tank.

Please supply us with your VIN # and we will get you the right part number so you can check our price and others... and I would suggest always replacing fuel pumps and fuel sending units with Original Equipment.

Thanks !!
Brad

P.S. Almost all ACDelco fuel sending units now come in brown boxes with Delco labels. In the past they were all in red, white and blue boxes but GM has changed the packaging.

What is a Gurkha?

Yet another vehicle we don't sell parts for. Actually rightnowautoparts.com is unapologetic for not having everything for every vehicle. What we do have is ACDelco and Motorcraft at wholesale pricing... and lots of it. We have parts for the baby-mini-undersized Hummer (that I used to think was big).

Derek Gardner: 1931-2011

A nice Tribute piece from Octane Magazine and Classicperformancecar.com...

Kelly Clarkston Mustang Video

She hasn't called yet (although we sell quite a bit in Texas) but we do have the parts for her new Mustang in stock here at rightnowautoparts.com.

Porsche 918 RSR Hybrid

We don't sell parts for this one at Rightnowautoparts.com but it is still a beautiful ride and a technological marvel!

2012 Chevy Sonic Hatchback

A nice looking little car... and with some of the new engineering specs coming out of GM these days it will probably be a good, dependable, economical ride.

Hints for buying auto parts online

My job here at Rightnowautoparts.com is to offer our existing warehouse full of auto parts online to the public. As part of that job I must continuously keep up with the competition in all aspects of their marketing efforts. What I have found that can be helpful to the non-professional is that auto parts web sites fall into a few different categories.

First are the “Accessory and Image” sites. These site have a vast blinding variety of items that you can add to your vehicle (of any type) to make it look better, perform better, offer more comfort, or just stylize so that your car becomes one of a kind. They range from specialty or specific (i.e. 4 wheel drive parts) to the sites that try to supply all things for all vehicles since before the birth of Henry Ford. These parts are referred to in the industry as “soft” parts, in that they aren’t really a need.

“Hard” parts are those that must be replaced when the vehicle breaks down. These web pages can also be broken down into two basic types; Specialty or OE, and Everything for everyone… think NAPA, AutoZone, O’Reilly, etc.. The specialty sites are either brand name specific or might even be niche specific (i.e. Toyota parts, Bendix, Goodyear, etc.).

There are a lot of reasons why companies choose one type or the other when going to market. You might think it would be best to build a website that sold all things to all people. The reality is that those logistics become so massively complex it is almost impossible to fulfill your promises 100% of the time. On the other hand it becomes hard to get all you need if the site becomes too specific. Goodyear has a great site if you need information about belts and hoses, but try to buy the things you need for a tune up and you will be disappointed.

So here are my suggestions on how to find what you need. First find a website that is specific to hard parts or soft parts. There are some that do both but refer back to my complexity equals disappointment statement earlier. Make sure the site has at least these three things…

1. A year, make, model catalog to narrow down your options.
2. A VIN option to narrow it down even more.
3. A phone number to call. Looking up parts can become extremely complicated.

Second, do enough research online, and on the phone, that you are SURE you have the right part number. Once you have the number, Google or BING it and check the preponderance of pricing. Most of the time you will find a range with extreme examples on both ends. There’s really no reason to explain why you should ignore the highest prices is there? On the low end, make sure to read the fine print. I have found sometimes the company with the lowest price is selling “bankruptcy” types of parts that came from companies that have closed and may not have a good enough warranty. They may also state that parts will be shipped from alternate locations within 20-45 days. I don’t know about you but if my car is broken down, savings of 10% aren’t going to help me. Also, check the part number on E-Bay. Sometimes you can save HUGE money on E-Bay, so it is worth checking.

Finally, choose a site that has one of the best prices, seems to be fairly specific to your type of vehicle and has a reasonable return policy. Understand that return policies need to be fairly strict legally but some are overbearing (I know I have read quite a few as examples). My personal feeling is that most companies will work with you as long as there is no obvious intent to take advantage, so call and ask if you have questions. Just before you make the purchase it would be a good idea to check to see if there are any coupons or extra discounts available… you may as well ask.

One extra thing, if the company does a really good job, take the time to tell your friends and share your experience on any forums or blogs you belong to. Today’s online world is becoming more dependant on customer online referrals. Help the good companies succeed by telling others.

Top Gear America

Finally an episode that I can get behind... Hopefully they won't have one of those staged Offroad Wheel Chair vs. Mountain Goat vs. F16 races like the other shows so far. I love cars, I love America and I am pretty OK with the personalities on the show, but I am having a hard time engaging so far.

Is Ford Reconsidering the GT Again?

This article from Jalopnik stretches an ambiguous quote from a Ford executive into the possibility of a new Ford GT program. We all can see the logic in beginning to remarket this platform, but American car companies have not always fallen squarely into the logical arena. You have to respect many of Ford's recent decisions so hopefully this will come to fruition. They have also floated the possibility of an "electric" drivetrain... Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Bring on The Electrification!

An industry that is just beginning to emerge that really excites me is "Classic car restoration with electrical power train". Hopefully we will recognize the potential and save some of these art works from the crusher. Beautiful vehicles, especially large ones like this 1939 Pickup, will be prime candidates for the coming highly efficient solar/battery setups of the near future. Imagine an optimized Chevy Volt setup with longer battery life and more power. Torque is one of the strong suits of electric engines, so trucks and SUV's could be the first beneficiaries of the new process. Next time you are rolling down the road out in the country and pass that "eye-sore" of a junkyard... Look closer for some abandoned glory that you could "Recycle". Sounds like a great idea for a TV show to me!!

P.S. We will do our part by making parts available from Rightnowautoparts.com...

Cool photos and article from MotorTrend

Lambo Doors ; )

I can honestly say these are not available from rightnowautoparts.com.

Amphibious Car That Actually Works

I have seen many "attempts" at this, but I believe this one can truly be called a complete product! I don't know the exact vehicle they began with but I believe we even have parts he could use at rightnowautoparts.com

Blow it out your tailpipe...

No that wasn't gun fire... someone needs to reset the timing on their vehicle so the horrendous explosion (called backfire) doesn't happen again. I wonder if anyone keeps statistics on the number of heart attacks caused by this miracle of the internal combustion engine. Luckily it doesn't happen nearly as often as in the past because of our new computer adjusted fuel systems. The writer at Motormorph.com has done a pretty good job of describing the process behind this link (and they included some cool pictures as well).

2010 Winners and Losers

As we begin the new year it is always good to look back at the previous year to see what worked, and more importantly, what didn't. Here is a link to a good article from Motortrend... worth a look.

P.S. Sorry on the redu on the Hello Kitty Car, but that may be a bigger fail than Mel Gibson.

Wasteland

I was watching a show on the Speed Channel this weekend that was talking about the lost future industry from the recent "Cash for Clunkers" fiasco. Many of today's clunkers could be the future rebuilds sold at Barrett-Jackson. Think of the body shops, reupholsterers, painters, parts sales, etc. that go into these thriving businesses. In our eco-concious, politically correct, crush it / melt it down world there may not be room for that type of industry in the future. Imagine some of the beautiful cars that aren't messed with today because of their poor fuel economy... Now imagine the not to distant application of solar energy, long range, high power electric motors being dropped into those beautiful, rebuilt bodies. I am just saying that there are far reaching effects of decisions that many people don't even think of (especially our government ruling class).

There is a new Eco-documentary coming out soon that will help people view these things as well as social and economic impacts of the wastefulness of our worldwide society. Check out this link, it may be something we should slowdown and ponder... Wasteland
